When You Can’t Buy It, Print It

Not every 3D print is about toys or décor—sometimes it’s about solving everyday problems that mass-manufactured parts just don’t cover.

Recently, a customer reached out with a unique challenge: her brick mailbox had been missing its door for years. Since the mailbox was built directly into brick, replacing the whole unit wasn’t an option. She had searched everywhere for a replacement door but couldn’t find one sold separately.

That’s where custom design came in.

Using the photos and measurements she provided, I created a 3D model for a brand-new door that matched her mailbox. The design included a working latch at the top for secure closure and even integrated her house numbers directly into the face of the door.

Once printed, the door fit perfectly—and for the first time in years, her mailbox was complete again. She was thrilled to finally have a simple, functional solution that wasn’t available off the shelf.

This is exactly what I love about 3D printing: turning a one-of-a-kind problem into a one-of-a-kind solution.
