The scanner
Mesh3D Up uses a Creality CR-Scan Otter to capture the outside surfaces of real objects. Scanning is useful when curves and organic shapes would be slow or difficult to recreate from measurements alone.
Objects that usually scan more easily
- Rigid objects with visible surface detail
- Matte or lightly textured surfaces
- Shapes that can be viewed from several angles
- Decorative pieces, housings, handles, forms, and reference objects
Objects that may need preparation or another approach
- Clear, reflective, glossy, or very dark surfaces
- Flexible objects that move during scanning
- Deep cavities and hidden internal geometry
- Very small details or thin edges
- Precision mechanical parts that require exact dimensions and tolerances
What you can receive
Depending on the project, the result may be a raw scan, a cleaned mesh, a print-ready model, or a scan used only as reference for further design work. These are different levels of work and are quoted separately.
A scan is not automatically CAD
A scanner captures surfaces as a mesh. It does not automatically know that a hole should be exactly 6 mm, that two walls should be parallel, or that a replacement part needs a specific clearance. Tight-fitting and functional pieces often combine scanning with hand measurements and CAD rebuilding.
Pricing and access
Basic scanning generally starts around $25 per object. A cleaned, print-ready file generally starts around $40, while detailed mesh repair or CAD reconstruction is quoted separately. Scanning is currently arranged locally so the physical object can be inspected and captured.
