FIT WARNINGDo not order from “small,” “medium,” or “large” alone. Match the shape, measurements, and hinge.

Mailbox Door Finder

Three checks prevent most wrong-door orders.

Use the listing photos and actual dimensions. Similar-looking cast mailboxes are not always identical.

01SHAPE

Compare the curve and latch area

Look at the opening, top profile, depth, and overall proportions.

02SIZE

Measure width and height

Measure the opening and the old door when it is still available.

03HINGE

Inspect both lower attachment points

Confirm built-in peg locations or whether a bolt-on version is needed.

Not sure?

Send front, side, hinge-area, latch, and tape-measure photos before ordering.

Do not order from the size name alone

“Small,” “medium,” and “large” are convenient labels, but mailbox castings and hinge positions vary. The listing photos, actual measurements, and attachment style matter more than the category name.

Approximate size guide

  • Small: commonly around 6.25 inches wide and roughly 8–8.5 inches tall
  • Medium: commonly around 8.25 inches wide and 10 inches tall
  • Large: commonly around 11 inches wide and 14.5 inches tall

These are identification clues, not a universal fit guarantee. Compare the exact measurements shown in the product listing.

Photo checklist

  • A straight-on photo of the entire mailbox opening
  • A side view showing the curve and depth
  • Close photos of both lower hinge areas
  • The latch area at the top
  • A tape measure across the width and height
  • The old door, when it is still available

Built-in pegs

Peg-style doors normally use one hinge peg on each side at the bottom. Installation typically starts by placing one peg into the original hinge hole, flexing the door slightly, and guiding the other peg into place.

Bolt-on mounting

Some medium doors and larger doors may use a bolt-on system for added strength or easier adaptation. Bolt-on versions use printed mounting holes with included corrosion-resistant hardware when specified in the listing.

Before and after ordering

When the match is uncertain, send photos before ordering so I can compare the style and hinge placement. Mailbox castings can still vary, so contact me if a door that appears to be the correct style does not fit as expected. I will review the measurements and determine the practical next step.
